First of all, since it is the year of St. Paul, going to the church in his name was such a great pilgrimage. I also had the opportunity to go to confession there and the priest told me a lot of things I needed to hear and also that I needed to live life as a Child of God! hah!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/STCjex1qlLI/AAAAAAAAFJY/H7p1JrZaQM4/s400/100_3793.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5273894912820679858" /> We also had the priveledge of walking in through the Pauline Doors which I think were a special addition for his year. We got to view Sr. Karol Joseph taking her first profession of vows as a sister in the Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist! Went fishing in the eve... I spent more hamock time... (the Moomers pic is from Friday night)...

Today we went to Mass, headed toward Traverse City - breakfast at Flap Jack Shack - then to see "The Dark Knight" then a nice scenic drive and another stop at Moomers (it was on the way :P) then home to get Pounce and our swim suits and we spent the evening at the beach at Lake Michigan, playing with Pounce in the water and watching the sun slowly set. This place is known for it's fresh air and ability to convince you to take multiple naps a day - whether on the couch or hamock.

We call this the calm before the storm because both of us have a tremendous amount of stuff to do before our trip TWO WEEKS from when we get back... then we'll be gone for two weeks (a crazy vacation with little/no "rest" that is typically associated with vacation) then we anticipate spending the next two weeks catching up... so, this little weekend is the relaxing we need to get us through the next few weeks.

I've told many friends about this place, so I've added some pictures and video of our day so far so you could get an idea of what it's like up here:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/SIpggi4tLqI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/bCTsm3bclFE/s400/100_3056.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227096429753609890" /> The back of the cottage

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/SIphFDOWnQI/AAAAAAAAAGY/kwh84_hVm8A/s400/100_3025.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227097056909630722" />Jon Paul napping :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/SIphhLTYJyI/AAAAAAAAAGg/nTLpspAZdr0/s400/100_3026.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227097540114523938" /> Pouncy sleeping on my legs while "reading a book" in the hamock

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/SIpiEgq3VJI/AAAAAAAAAGo/Fd_E2xgi0xY/s400/100_3047.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227098147145602194" />Taking a ride in the boat

Well, we're getting ready to go get some of the best ice cream in the united states, so, I'll add the video when I get back :)

A Piece of Cake.

This weeks is the St. Boniface Parish festival. I'm not tired of the color purple... it will always be my favorite color (I think - though pink is coming back)... I agree it was a bit much. I find with this neutral background, the purple decor sticks out much more! :)

Ahh... enjoy it. Don't be surprised if it changes again. We'll see. Again.

So far this year, Jon Paul has gone to a wedding in Texas without me in March (even on my bday), a conference in Geogia without me(in April), a retreat for teens without me (in June), a camping trip without me (also in June), and it sure feels like more... but that's all I can think of right now...

So, once again I am on my own this weekend, Jon Paul is escorting 150 teenagers to a Franciscan University Youth Conference. I was suppose to be there with him, but nooo... I'm home. Alone. In bed.

Why?

Once again, my back is aching like crazy. I decided enough was enough and went to the chiropractor to find out what's going on. After some x-rays it was determined that my left ilium is out of place (pelvis bone) - it has rotated back and down... then the muscles around it are so tight that it got stuck there and can't move back on it's own... soo doc did some electro-therapy and some adjustments and sent me home feeling worse than I did when I went in. We asked him about going away on the trip and he said it was not in my best interest to go... So, here I am... home... Disappointed that I am not with Jon Paul and the rest of the teens on their way to Steubenville. Jon Paul had to quickly find a replacement chaperone for me. Luckily, a parent of one of our teens was willing to spontaneously give up her entire weekend... So, I just trust that it is God's will that she is on the trip and not me.

The worst part is that I am more or less confined to bed for now. I go in tomorrow for another adjustment, and hopefully that will provide some relief.

The craziest part of all this is that the chiropractor that I pulled out of a hat because he takes my insurance, ended up being a parent of kids that go to my school! Yes, that's right. The school where I teach - 30miles away... He lives in Dayton and commutes to Piqua, and I live in Piqua and commute to Dayton. I had no idea who this guy was before... or even when I saw him. It wasn't until he looked at my charts and saw where I taught when we put two and two together. Crazy!

Praise God for computers, books, and tvs. Without them, I'd be bored to tears... Now I am reading up on some long awaited information. More to come on what I discover (today i am focusing on using coupons and getting the most out of them. It is quite fascinating and really giving me the desire to use coupons and save $$)...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jenandjp.blogspot.com/2008/07/home-alone-again.html' title='Home Alone. Doctors removed it all then, but he just went in today for a check up and the doc found 2 more spots. She removed them, but if the biopsy shows they are cancerous, he will have to go in for more tests to see if it has spread.

Please join me in prayer - that these spots are not cancerous first and foremost - but if they are that they don't spread to other parts of his body...

We are pretty optimistic since he has no symptoms of it spreading, but are anxious to hear the news for sure.

Thanks foryour prayers!

Oh, and to answer questions about my heart... it's still beating (praise God!) The doc put me on meds for it, but they seem to have given me some side effects (light headedness, sore throats, itchy skin ALL over - which I still have - etc)... and has decided to take me off of it. Luckily, since I've been off, they haven't returned too bad, so yeah. They [the palpitations] are not life threatening or anything, just uncomfortable at times and can cause unneeded worry if I let them. Hopefully my itchy skin will go away SOON, otherwise the skin itself will be gone due to the itching (I'm trying SO HARD no to scratch)!

Who knew?

Who knew that this girl I met when I was 12 would be so famous and cool? Not only that, but I'm going to her wedding! Well, 14 years ago, Anna and I did and "interchange" with an organization called CISV (Children's International Summer Village)... 10 kids from Miami County and 10 kids from the Malmo,Sweden area were linked up for two summers. The first summer (1994), Anna and the rest of her gang came to the US and stayed with their host families for a month. The following summer (1995) the 10 of us traveled to Sweden to stay with our host families (ie - I stayed with Anna and her fam). It was an amazing experience that I will cherish forever! Anna and I have kept in contact ever since - actually seeing each other about 4-5 times since 1995 (always in the US)...
For the first time, my parents will meet her parents - and not only that - but on HER turf! My brother will meet her brother. My brother's fiance will meet her brother's girlfriend. Our families will finally meet!
Anna and Jimmy are aerialists who just ended a contract with Royal Carribean as featured "dancers" (it's so much more than that)... Check out Jimmy and Anna's professional website for video and pictures of what these two incredibly talented people do.

I am proud of all my friends for various reasons. God has really put some incredibly amazing people in my life. These just happen to get the feature today. Check them out! I'm sure you will be amazed!

That, my friends, is why I am SO excited about going to Europe in (check the coundown) days!

Slow Start.

I'm a teacher. I have the summers off. I'm suppose to get a lot done. I have no excuse not to.

The last day of school was June 2. Granted, I went back in for two weeks afterward for summer school and to pack my room up getting ready to move to a new room... but still...

A whole week has gone by since the end of summer school. I did a load or two of laundry, hung up about half of the clothes that came out, and... well.. what else? WHAT HAVE I DONE? I have spent too much time on the computer is what. Where is my motivation? My summer is already short due to the vacation I am peeing myself about... I had better get my act together if I want to do anything with my summer. It's JULY next week for heaven's sake!

Tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully I will get some vacuuming done, perhaps even take a mop to the kitchen floor... that's the normal stuff I should be doing anyway... *Sigh* What in the world will I do with myself when we have kids? Here is the plan as it stands:
Tues, Aug. 12, depart Dayton, OH 6:00pm
Wednesday, Aug. 13, arrive Cophenhagen, Denmark, 2:45pm, travel across the Baltic to Sweden to visit with Anna and her family until Friday morning when we will depart to ROME.
Stay in Rome from Friday until Wednesday the 20th of Aug. (One day in there will be to Florence.)
Then go to Munich until Friday the 22nd. Fly back to Copenhagen (travel to Sweden), be ready for Anna's wedding on Saturday. Sunday, have brunch with the Netterlid's and Monday, Aug 25, depart from Copenhagen back to Dayton!

What's super fun is that my whole fam: Mom, Dad, Gordon and his fiance Alicia, and Jon Paul will be going too!!

Ever since I left Europe for the 3rd time in December of 2002, I have had a yearning to go back. I don't know if this will fulfill it forever, but it will help!

YAY!

Pray for good weather, on time flights, and the ability to see a lot of things efficiently without exhausting ourselves sick.

Done.

I breathe a deep sigh of relief (with a faint scent of lilac :P).

Today was the last day of religious education (teaching 3rd grade).

Today was the last day of youth group (high school).

I love ministering in these ways, but it drains me. Unfortunately, my lack of posting equals a lack of traffic on this blog... but oh well... I'm going to post what's going on anyways...

After tutoring in dayton public schools from Nov - March, 4 hours a week, rehearsing for the musical "Jacob's Pillow", then rehearsing for the musical "Meet me in St. Louis", attending adoption information meetings, and a host of other one-time events and meetings and appointments, life has slowed down and my body has said "it's about time".
Maybe my heart is trying to say something to me, I don't know, but it's been beating funny and scaring me quite a bit. After two trips to the doctor, a trip to the ER, and a trip to the cardiologist, I am now "stuck" with a heart monitor for the next month. Every time I feel my heart beating irregularly, I push a little button and it saves the previous 10 seconds and the following 20 seconds. The docs don't think anything is life threatening since my blood work has come out okay - but I can't say as though my conscience is settled about the whole situation - especially since I will be spending the next month with a sticky chest. I am just hoping and praying that it's all related to stress and since I have been able to unclutter my schedule, my life will become a little more restful and peaceful.

Another answer to prayer...

While I was running out the door one day last week (the same day as the revelation mentioned in the previous post - Thursday) late for work with no time to pack a lunch, I said, "Lord, please provide a lunch for me today."

And it was so.

At lunch time while I was helping my kindergarteners get set up eating their lunch, my coworker said, "Hey, I brought you lunch today."
"What? God answered, "yes".

I knew in the depths of my heart for a while now, that in fact the answer was yes, but I was waiting for Jon Paul to come to the same conclusion.

This week, I was begging God in the chapel of our parish church, to please, please, please tell Jon Paul, WHILE God was actually telling him in the main area of the church through a wise and holy servant, Fr. Jon Paul enjoyed watching me do it and has decided to join in as well! We are really excited about this new hobby because - quite honestly - it gives us an excuse to sit down and still be productive. I have made 6 and they are getting better and better.

These are mission rosaries, meaning, we get the supplies very cheap so that we can make the rosaries to be given away. So, if you need a rosary for any reason, I will be happy to send as many as you need your way - free of charge (and as fast as I/we can do them)... We have tons of colors of plastic beads: red, pink, yellow, white, cream, green, light blue, dark blue, purple and black - all pearlized which makes them extra beautiful.

If you are looking for a nicer rosary - something with crystal beads or a fancy crucifix/center metal... - for a gift or personal use (when you would typically buy one) I would be glad to do that for you for the cost of the materials/shipping/and a small fee... to be determined...

Sooo, when I'm not blogging - THAT's what I'm doing!

A teaching quote

I spend the last two days at a workshop JUST for kindergarten teachers. Did it take them that long to realize the location doesn't exist?

Crunch.

This is what a 10 point buck does to a 2007 Honda Civic when struck straight on going 55 miles per hour -
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/RxJ0kSTLcII/AAAAAAAAACs/ncyC641mAd4/s400/100_2076.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121283893010067586" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/RxJ0_CTLcJI/AAAAAAAAAC0/RDf2KfpJVFI/s400/100_2086.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121284352571568274" />

This is what a 10 point buck does to a field of corn when flying at a high rate of speed through the air 20 ft. from where it was struck.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/RxJ1cyTLcKI/AAAAAAAAAC8/4-ePQTl3uR0/s400/100_2075.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5121284863672676514" />

A little close to home...

This evening I was informed of the death of an American Soldier a little too close to home...

Sam Pearson

He was the son of my mom's co-worker. We are looking forward to it SOOOO much! There's just something about Europe that makes my heart yearn to go back more and more (this will be my 3rd time in Europe, plus a month in India - a total of 6 months out of the US)... What a specatular experience!

Brother Nathan Cromly, now Father Nathan, is, without a doubt in my mind, a saint.

Why? He is the most humble person I have ever met (Mass readings today). He knows exactly what to say at exactly the right time. He spends every second of his life doing the ministry of God's work, and now, he has the priviledge of doing His work in a much more intimate way, which will, I'm positive, only confirm his seat in heaven...

And yes, Jon Paul and I were able to recieve a blessing from him (which was totally amazing) and able to attend and witnes the first time he celebrated Mass. I had heard of her before, but I didn't know the whole story, and wow. Pretty amazing.

Her name: St. Gianna Beretta Molla
Localation: Italy
Dates of life: Oct. 4, 1922 - April 28, 1962
Why a saint?: She was a stellar example of mom and career woman as a doctor. She was quoted to have said "I would rather die than to commit a mortal sin" at a very early age.

She gave her life for her daughter. She had a tumor that was found 2mos into pregnancy. The advice of her doctors was to terminate the pregnancy immediately. The doctors told her that her body would not be able to withstand giving birth to the baby, but she insisted and told them that if they had to choose between her and the baby, to choose the baby without hesitation. She ended up dying 7 days after the baby was born as the feared predictions had warned.

Reflections on teaching

I have not fallen off the face of the earth, I promise... but my real life has started again. Being a kindergarten teacher takes a lot of steam and time at the beginning of a new school year. Chugga chugga choo choo! I love it though... even the 12-14 hour days when I am trying to make everything "just right". I love teaching. I love taking the time to figure out the right lesson, the exact placement of the furniture and even the plants (something new... I've decided to have an indoor garden this year!). My room is VERY bright... and I've decided that I think the window sill is too bright for many plants (I killed one the first weekend I left it in the window - oops!).

Anywho - there are days that I don't feel I did a good job, or know that there's more I should have done with the kids... so I'll reflect back on this post to remind me how much I love teaching and how much I hope it loves me :).

School begins Wednesday!
Action on my other blog should begin soon!~
You can also check out my school's website just to see what's going on there. Things are updated often.

Pray for me this week. I don't know why it's only once in a while... it should be all the time... but when I do have this epiphany of goodness, it's quite large and brings tears to my eyes.

Today was one of those days.

I was just sitting here, doing the web thing... and it hit me. Wow.. I have a great life.

I am blessed with an awesome husband, the cutest dog in the world, a house that most people my age would be so grateful to own, a job that I believe I make a difference doing, a supportive and caring family, friends that I am clueless why they stick by my side because, Lord, my IQ is like the square root of theirs... and most of all... God loves me despite the distorted mirror I am of him.

Perhaps I should be appreciating my life more... but I thank goodness that I do at least sit and ponder about the good things in life once in a while.

ProLife Voting

Trying to stay off my feet today to recover from the week at band camp, I decided to do some research into things I haven't had a chance to be updated on lately...

In my search I found this article about the candidates for president - 2008. First of all, we decided to reserve a room at a hotel so we didn't have to go far and to continue our sightseeing in the morning - during the day time. We didn't, however, reserve a hotel room because we wanted to get smashed....

My father-in-law had other plans.

He didn't come with us, but he did secretly give my dad a drink suggestion when we were to arrive at the famous Pat O'Briens Dad had this huge grin. A waitress was walking our way with the biggest beverage glass I had ever seen in my life...

The Magnum.

It's just a hurricane for a giant or two.

We took our time and the 7 of us (Mom, Dad, my Mother-in-Law, Gordon, Alicia, Jon Paul and I) sipped away. People would come to us and ask to take a picture with it. They would come and tell us to "Chug". When we would leave to go to the bathroom and the waitress would ask us if we needed a seat or a drink when we came back, we said "No, we're with the magnum" and we were left alone.

In the end, I think we drank about 1/2 of it's 384 oz (3 gal) glory... and we were still able to walk out with no problem... goal accomplished.

This morning we walked around the quarter and even bought a few pieces of art for our house, and took some fantastic pics. The French Quarter is actually quite beautiful during the day! :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/RqfUff4pgaI/AAAAAAAAABc/A4Jb4csFdlk/s200/100_1885.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5091271541365768610" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/RqfUf_4pgbI/AAAAAAAAABk/4BS3glAyS0w/s200/100_1883.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5091271549955703218" />

Gators 'n Things

Sooo... Gulfport/Biloxi was one of the hardest hit areas from Katrina. It was the first time we had been over there in the 2 years since... and as bad as it still looked, it was so good to see that it was cleaned up and many hotels had been rebuilt... not many homes, but quite a few hotels. The trees have finally started to grow and, if you didn't know there used to be thousands of homes along the 60 miles of gulf side estates, you might have thought it was actually a pretty area (knowing there used to be homes there made the pretty areas quite depressing to see).

Oh, and the buffet was quite delicious :)

On the agenda for the week:
A swamp tour at Honey Island Swamp Tours, a golf outing for the boys, an evening of Hurricanes at Pat O'Brians and a Hand Grenade at Tropical Isle (click here for a live webcam!) followed by beignets and coffee at Cafe du Monde, and in general just sight seeing around New Orleans (French Quarter), a visit to the beach near Gulf Port, visiting with friends and former co-workers... and probably more...

One cool thing: When we got here, Jon Paul's parents gave us the phone number of a man who tracked them down to tell them that they found our fire safe box floating down by his house after the hurricane. It took him a long time of talking to people to figure out who/where to get it to... so tomorrow we will pick up a box that held our passports, social security cards, marriage license, savings bonds, and who knows what else......

I will post some pictures when I have a minute and access to a computer that I can transfer pics from memory card.

"Laissez les bons temps rouler!"

Accomplished

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/Rp7a1saHxbI/AAAAAAAAAA0/Ph_mi-Hb8oc/s200/100_1522.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5088745244963882418" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/Rp7a2MaHxcI/AAAAAAAAAA8/gMd5Y_Gz8VA/s200/100_1518.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5088745253553817026" />

Amongst my long list of "To Do's" this summer, I was to turn our third bedroom - otherwise known as the craft room or guest room - into exactly that: a craft room/bedroom. Before it was really more of a storage unit that happened to have craft supplies and a bed in it. Thanks to a $25 drafting table purchased at a local thrift store and some plastic containers, I (with the aid of my hubby) was able to successfully accomplish turning this 10'x10' room into a suitable guest bedroom and a craft room... and even a gift wrapping center (the gift wrapping supplies are in the drawers beside the bed: 1st drawer bows and ribbons, 2nd drawer gift bags, and 3rd drawer tissue paper). All of the other stuff cluttering the room was our garage sale pile that moved out to the shed.
For the first time, I can actually walk around in the room and not worry about stepping on something... AND I know exactly where everything is.

Needless to say, I can scratch this job off my list.

When life sends you rotten bananas...

Make banana bread!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 5px 5px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MmcXkjtOQS8/Rp5jx8aHxXI/AAAAAAAAAAU/Jk7Jj-vw2Ew/s320/100_1517.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5088614338655667570" />

That is precisely what I did this morning! Since we have been having a 'drought' those large weeds were taking necessary water away from the important plants that I have been working on since MARCH.

I had also learned from last year to spread things out a bit... not planting things so close. I had no idea how BIG plants can get! How does that little seed turn into a plant that is bigger than me?

Anywho - I was weeding the garden. It was hot. I just wanted to be done already. I kept weeding, pulling and pulling. I finally completed weeding the 22' x 5' rectangle. I gathered half of a monster trash can full of weeds. I looked at the garden and was amazed by how nice it looked once it was weeded - and how spacious considering the existing plants are quite large by now.

The big shocker came a day or two later. Where did my green bean plants go? hmmmmmmmmmm... I wonder.

Ordinary Life

Jon Paul and I lead an ordinary life... We do what we can to serve the Lord. We do what we can to be the best at the duties He has put in our life. We do what we can to be the best spouses to each other. We do our best to be our best... sometimes we get close... otherwise, it's just something we strive for every day. I suppose the day we become our best is the day we enter the Kingdom of God.

Anywho... enjoy the ordinary passings of our life. There may be a chance that something exciting happens... who knows!
